A few weeks ago, Groupon offered an amazing deal for a high-end local gym. $25 for 30 days and it’s usually $100 a month! I snatched up that deal fast!
My plan was to wait until about a month before the race to start using my 30 membership and that way I could train more precisely. With the spring weather, it’s often hit or miss.
At the beginning of week nine of my training, I checked the weather out and it was scheduled to rain the entire week! Usually I would skip a day of running if needed, but going every two days was far less training than I need and I certainly couldn’t miss a week!
I decided to start using my groupon and since the gym had some issues activating it, I got a few extra days in for free! So my 30 day membership will expire about a week before my race.
I’ve got to say, I’m really happy I started my training outdoors. For me, the treadmill seems so much easier than running outside. The treadmill pulls your foot back rather than having to force yourself forward as you would running on land.
I do really enjoy the treadmill though. All of my stats are recorded for me and I feel as though I have much more control. I can fix my run to be any type I want and I can watch tv while doing so!
I am also LOVING the use of a gym and am already dreading the day my membership will end *tear*.
Yesterday’s run consisted of a 2 minute warmup walk, a 32 minute run, and a 2 minute cool down walk for a total of 36 minutes. My total distance was 3.3 miles. So my distance is down .1 from my last run but my time is down by 3 minutes!
I really feel like yesterday was my best run yet. For the first time I actually felt like a runner. Up recently running always felt like a huge effort in an attempt to propel my body forward. This time I felt the natural spring in my step, making it seemingly effortless to launch ahead. Don’t get me wrong, there is still work involved, just in a more comfortable way. By the end of the run, it was as if someone had dumped a bucket of water over my head I was so drenched. It felt great! I absolutely LOVE running and foresee it in my future for many years to come. I would love to run a 5K when I’m 70, any takers?by Veg Writing Momma with no comments yet
I have completed my nine weeks of 5K training! It really is an unbelievable feeling, I can’t wait to see how amazing I feel once I finish my first 5K! Week nine training was the follow:
Approx 5 minute warmup walk
30 minute run
Approx 5 minute cooldown walk
For a total of 39:59 and a total distance of 3.4 miles!
3.4 miles was the final distance on day 3 of week 9. My week started out on day 1 with a distance of 3.1.
Today I started training on my own (without the couch 2 5K program) and decided to shorten my warmup walk time. My run went as follows:
2 minute warmup walk
32 minute run
5 minute cooldown walk
Total time of 39 minutes with a total distance of 3.44miles! I managed to add time to my run, shorten the total time, and increase my total distance! Yay me….haha
I really am so amazed at how well the program worked and really recommend it for those that wish to take up running and are beginners.
Until next time…by Veg Writing Momma with no comments yet
5 minute warmup walk
jog for 5 minutes
walk for 3 minutes
jog for 5 minutes
walk for 3 minutes
jog for 5 minutes
5 minute cool down walk
my total distance was 2.1 for a time of 31 minutes. I was a little bummed that my distance went down, but my total running time was less than that of my last run. Now the focus is shifting to getting me to run for longer amounts of time during one sweep and not shorter intervals of time. So, I’m keeping focused and excited to get to day 2 of this week tomorrow!
I thought you might like to know what music I am listening to that helps keep me going. “I gotta feeling” by Black Eyed Peas is a get up and get going kind of song. You just can’t sit still when it plays and it makes me feel like the rest of my day is going to be great once I complete my goal! “Soak up the Sun” by Sheryl Crow is a great one! When I am running and the sun is beating down on me while this song is playing, I briefly close my eyes and take a deep breath in. I absorb the beauty all around me and enjoy the run so much more. “Bulletproof” by La Roux gives you that faster than light, invincible feel, lol.
Today I made avocado smoothies following this recipe:
Blend them all together and voila! I didn’t have vanilla yogurt, so I used Silk strawberry yogurt. Since I was using flavored yogurt (which is high in sugar) I only added two tablespoons of agave instead of the three. Next time, I am going to try this recipe with vanilla almond milk and the vanilla yogurt. All in all, it turned out well and Anson loved it!
For dinner, I made an attempt at this recipe…..http://www.vegkitchen.com/recipes/tofu-tempeh-and-seitan/versatile-tofu/roasted-barbecue-flavored-tofu-and-vegetables/
I only used one pack of tofu instead of the two (since that makes enough for 6). I also used one carrot, one red pepper and didn’t have zucchini. I caramelized the onions first and chopped them instead of sliced rings.
I thought it was okay, not as flavorful as I would have liked and I think it could have cooked longer. It seems Anson doesn’t like BBQ sauce (this was my second attempt giving it to him), so we made sandwiches instead!
Wish me luck tomorrow, I run for eight minutes straight! I’m worried and excited, but won’t give up……by Veg Writing Momma with no comments yet
